Switch mode power supplies can be the solution to many power supply problems. Switch mode power supplies can rapidly switch between full power and no power to create the average power output that is required, little power is lost when on full, so switch mode can be far more efficient than a linear regulator. SMPS is also a much lighter than linear regulators and gives off less heat. Power Conversion can be achieved using smps and can be grouped into four types :
